The nonsensical ponderings of Eric Frisch...

This is a very busy week.  I ought to be in bed, in fact, as 6 AM will be here in no time at all.  But writing here helps me to focus, to remind myself of what I'm up to.  Therefore, here's some random stuff that's going on (for you to do with what you will).

I didn't watch the Superbowl last night.  Instead I went to a concert downtown with some friends.  One of my favorite bands, Straylight Run, played.  Unfortunately, the billing was a little misleading (I thought they were co-headlining and they only ended up playing for 40 minutes or so).  Even so, they were awesome.  The best part of the night, though, was probably the hour and a half that we spent at Steak N' Shake after the show... I don't get many opportunities to just sit and talk and laugh with friends these days, and it was very much appreciated.  Did I suffer for it in sleep?  Yes.  Was it worth it?  Yes.

I put new strings on my bass and my guitar tonight.  I'm doing a lot of playing this week/weekend, so I figured the time had come.  At some point this week I need to restring the church's old electric too, so that I can use it on Sunday.  Fortunately, the ukes still both have fairly new strings right now, so they don't need it.  Changing strings is a pain in the butt, but everything sounds and feels so much better when they're new.  Especially the bass... love playing the bass with new strings.  Which is good, because I'll be doing a lot of it between now and Thursday night.

I'm also playing percussion for a conference in the Cleveland area this weekend.  I'm doing all the auxiliary stuff, which means it's time to dust off all the crazy ethnic instruments... udu, darbuka, bohdran, rainsticks, every tambourine and shaker I own... they're all coming out for this one.  I really should set all that weirdness up at some point this week before Friday to make sure it's going to work the way I think, but I don't know when I'll find that time.  I'm sure it will work out, though.

The Ohio Music Educator's Conference is this weekend.  That means nothing to me, except that I have a couple rehearsals canceled on Thursday and Friday which will help out a LOT with the events I'm playing for.  Gotta love that.
