Alright, I'll be real honest here. I'm not normally the type to plug products, services, programs, etc. on my blog. For the most part, as far as I'm concerned, others can do and use what they want, and I keep my preferences to myself as well. However, once in a while, I discover something so cool and, well... useful, that I simply have to share.
I don't know if anybody else has noticed this... but computer programs are getting cooler. New features, new looks, fancy stuff. The problem is, along with those new features, they're also getting larger and sucking down more and more of my computer's resources. Windows Media Player 11 and AIM 6 have been prime examples of this, at least for me. It has gotten to the point where my computer (which is less than two years old and was state of the art when I purchased it) can hardly keep up if I'm running Media Player, AIM, and Firefox (Norton doesn't help either).
Enter the world of miniaim.
This program is absolutely awesome. It's a tiny little AIM client that runs completely independently of all other files on your system (making it a portable app - that's how I discovered it). The newest beta version is fairly full featured and, here's the best part: when it's running, it uses about 15-20% of the resources that the actual AIM client uses. Awesome! The developer had stopped work on it for a while, but now he's picked it back up, and therefore I recently made the decision to switch completely. Again, awesome!
Check it out here.
Sorry if this has been a little nerdy for some of you... I just couldn't contain myself
